We started YouToUs as we felt that there was a large gap in what was on offer in East Sussex for pregnant women and their birth partners regarding antenatal classes.
Our society has taken childbirth and medicalised it, placed fear around it and forgotten that all women do have an innate knowledge, (whether they know it or not) of birthing.
At YouToUs we try to give a balanced approach to women, incorporating relevant information and exploring any fears that women may have around labour and birth. We teach from a realistic, honest, empowered and often humorous place. Our classes do not guarantee a perfect birth at the end, but encourages women to have an open mind and understand that childbirth is a profound rite of passage. Medical input can be incorporated into this philosophy when appropriate, but need not take away from the significance of this journey.
Our sessions are small and informal (around 6-8 couples) and we hope that good supportive friendships will be made that will last beyond birth and into motherhood.
That childbirth is a profound rite of passage even when medical care is part of the birth.
The purpose of childbirth preparation is to prepare mothers to give birth with an open flexible mind, birth cannot be controlled by planning.
In giving realistic information to allow women to make informed choices in all areas. Such as place of birth, pain relief, and who to have present at the birth.
Parents deserve support for any birth option which might be right for them
Pain is an inevitable part of childbirth, yet it is manageable.
Birth partners need support.
